DOHA, (December 18, 2012) – Wyndham Grand Regency Doha today announced that it has been awarded the “Wyndham Green” award for sustainability by Wyndham Hotel Group, the world’s largest hotel company with over 7,200 hotels.
Unveiled at the company’s Europe, Middle East and Africa Awards Event held at Wyndham Grand London Chelsea Harbour in the U.K. capital, the accolade places Wyndham Grand Regency Doha among the very best in the hotel company’s global portfolio.
To be eligible for the award, a hotel must have undertaken considerable efforts to implement and improve green initiatives in every aspect of the running of the hotel in accordance with the hotel group’s Wyndham Green commitment to corporate social responsibility and the environment.
In addition to completing energy saving initiatives such as replacing halogen lighting with LEDs, reducing energy consumption from lighting by almost 75%, the hotel was chosen to be the first in Doha to join the Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC). In recognition of its ongoing commitment to sustainability the hotel has also worked with the QGBC to co-found the 1st Green Hotel Interest Group.
“Wyndham Grand Regency Doha is a truly fantastic hotel that has taken sustainability and Wyndham Green very seriously since joining us in April 2011,” said Rui Barros, senior vice president and managing director, Wyndham Hotel Group Europe, Middle East and Africa. “I congratulate the hotel and its staff on the superb work they have done and thank them for both their dedication to the brand and their dedication to corporate social responsibility.”
Wyndham Grand Regency Doha is a five-star hotel situated in the heart of Doha effortlessly combining location with luxury, with stunning rooms, exquisite restaurants and a rejuvenating spa. The hotel has set a fine example for other hotels ‘going green’ in Doha by introducing best practices, reducing energy, waste and water and forming a Green Committee to support all areas of going green and reducing the hotel’s carbon footprint.
“We are delighted to be given this honour and it is testament to the hard word and ‘green thinking’ attitude of our wonderful staff that we have been given this recognition,” said the hotel’s general manager Ayman Lotfy. “We look forward to continuing our Wyndham Green programme and working towards further reducing our carbon footprint.”
